"There, I ruined it" was a good youtube channel. very silly. Mainly insanely good but silly editing

But he started using AI voices.
The idea of Hank Williams Sr singing "Straight Outta Compton" is objectively funny.
But... that's making an AI duplicate of Hank William's voice. Did he ask? Did the Estate okay it? Its digital necromancy is what it is and it makes me ethically nervous.

I find myself ambivalent about the "rights" of estates. Copyright lasts way too long. You cannot hurt Jack Benny by using his image and voice. Does anyone else truly have a right to it? I might barely recognize his children. Grandchildren less so and a holding company can fucking go fish.jayphailey wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 9:43 am

Re: Bad Jesus
I am currently uncomfortable with digital necromancy. It squicks me.
Dennis pointed out that 15 or 20 years ago I was speculating about this sort of thing.
We imagine Holodecks doing this with great ease.
But when I heard that Hank Williams thing, I realized what I was hearing and I got squicked.
That genie is already leaving the bottle, there's no putting it back in. But I really don't think we've out enough thought into who that makes us.
There's a day coming when it'll be all Mel Blanc again and no new human actors will be hired.
Season 50 of The Simpsons with all the old characters back.
(Sigh)
Something doesn't sit right with me about it.
But I'm not sure what it is.
Honestly, I like that Chris Pine and Paul Wesley have also played James T. Kirk. It breaks the character himself loose from William Shatner.
All three Kirks are really different guys, but they share things.
I like that new interpretations and elements can be added to Star Trek.
Although I enjoyed the fan-film I linked to on the TCR, It's more of the Digital Necromancy.
Ah well. Nothing I feel or say will change a damned thing.
We'll hang on and see which way the roller coaster goes next.
