Routine Activities: Studying technical manuals and current events, studying art. being a Starship Captain requires a lot of knowldge, Mendez w0orks to stay current with that. To relax, Mendez does holodeck horse riding, physical training, or gardens.

Weaknesses: Mendez occasionally suffers from horrible luck. He can be very stubborn. He is not well regarded among senior officers who know he brocke down.
History and Experiences Which have Affected Character Greatly:
Carlos Mendez was the third son of a Columbian land owner. Although of a middle class standard of living, land ownership made the Mendezes small time gentry. The Mendez clan had held this status since the 21st century, and Carlos was raised with a strong sense of family history, and nobility.
As the third son, Carlos was not in line to inherit, so he felt he had to seek his fortune else where and bring honor to the family name.
Carlos chose to join Starfleet, a well regarded path for Columbian uppercrust sons. Once there he discovered that he had a gift for command, and began a long career in the command path.
Although orginally somewhat imperious, Carlos rarely evinced that side of his personality anymore.
In 2367, Mendez was injured and his starship the USS Farragut was destroyed by a Borg Cube at the Battle of Wolf 359. Not too long afterward Mendez suffered a nervous break down. He was removed from active duty. He completed treatment and petitioned to be returned to duty. Political enemies force Mendez to accept a major reduction in Rank. They were trying to force him to retire before he risked besmirching the service.
Mendez dug in his feet. He has worked his way back to the level of Starship Executive Officer.

2317: (age 11) Diagnosed w/ depression, therapy and Dietary treaments

2321: (Age 15) Wins HS Essay Competition, gets tour aboard Starfleet
vessel USS Excelsior. This may be what inspires him to join later

2329 - 2335: Serves USS Savannah as Chief Helmsman; OER good;
While visiting Argelius, he buys a fencing sabre said to have belonged to Neemok,
the Argelian Robin Hood. The sabre itself is of excellent quality, and dates
from approximately the correct time.
2335 - 2336: Command School Promoted to lt Commander
2336 - 2339: Serves on USS Patton as Chief of Ops OER Neutral
2339 - 2344: Serves on USS Ambassador as Chief of Ops OER Very

2360 - 2367: Captain of USS Farragut
2366 While Captain of the USS Farragut Mendez participates in a covert
operation designed to result in the overthrow of the Taralian government. This
is not successful, and Mendez has a price on his head about it.
2367 USS Farragut destroyed at Wolf 359 Later, Mendez suffers breakdown
