El-Aurians:

The following is for Jay-Trek only, do not consider it binding, but go ahead and borrow the parts that amuse you or are useful to you.

El-Aurians are a race of humans from the planet El-Au. Their culture is ancient - they tested their first warp drive prototype in 2,500 BCE about the time The Great Pyramid of Cheops was being built on Earth.

In 2291 the El-Aurians were decimated by the Borg, with a few tens of thousands of survivors escaping into the rest of the galaxy.

Physically: El-Aurians are indistinguishable from humans and in any gaming system would be built on a straight human template

The differences are mental

As people with long life spans and vast life experience, El-Aurians would tend to have high WIS (d20) or EGO (Hero system) scores

El-Aurians often have a sort of empathy that makes them good listeners an easy to talk to, about a +1 on CHA or PRE scores.

El-Aurians often have psionics or extra sensory perception.

El-Aurians can freely interbreed with humans - any resulting children will inherit the genetic long life span of the El-Aurian parent and the tendency towards psionics. They tend to stop aging at about age 30 or so.

Culture: El-Aurians in the modern day are refugees in a world they'd consider a candidate for Prime Directive protection. They are often quiet and reticent about their own past.

El-Aurians prize wisdom, emotional insight and maturity and often seek to gently bring these qualities out in their friends.

A few El-Aurians turn bad, using their skills as listeners and insightful people to become superior con-men and media commentators but they are the exception, rather than the rule.

There seems to be an open question floating around among El-Aurians about whether the El-Aurian Culture is an artifact of the past or something that needs to be rebuilt with the "Let the past be the past" opinion largely favored.

The El-Aurians are a dying race - there were a few tens of thousands of survivors of the Borg Assimilation/Massacre, and their reproduction rates have stayed low.

Time line:

2,500 BCE - The Flight of the First El-Aurian Warp Drive Prototype

2,200 BCE - the El-Aurians are at the center of a growing trade network and alliance of friendly powers when they ran into their greatest enemy - the Great Orion Empire. The Orions were a huge, sprawling multiplanet empire that ranged from swashbuckling to outright predatory and rapacious.

2,400 BCE - the First El-Aurian Empire is formed as allied worlds and client states joined for protection and other benefits.

The First El-Aurian Empire was an age of discovery for the El-Aurians, where the empire was considered a beneficial force for good, brave men, women and others manned starships exploring strange new worlds, seeking out new life and new civilizations and fending off the evil of the Orions.

During this time - El-Aurian Scientists traveled space and explored the plethora of other human races in the galaxy. They examined many different cultures and learned much gaining perspective on their own culture and how cultures develop.

During this time - the El-Aurians occasionally "Rescued" and transplanting individuals from "interesting" cultures to other uninhabited Class M worlds to try and preserve their cultural uniqueness.

1000 BCE - the First El-Aurian Empire transformed into the Second Empire - as the planets and space under control of the Empire grew the Bureaucracy and control mechanisms of the El-Aurian Empire bloated to enormous size.

At a certain point, the ability of the Empire to administer new planets and territories reached the point of diminishing returns. It cost more in bloated inefficiency than the benefit of having new member worlds would bring to the Empire

The Empire's outlook changed an evolved. Gone was the open, exploring, swashbuckling, adventurous and optimistic view. The Second El-Aurian Empire, now safely larger and more powerful than the Orions, or any other rival empire they encountered, the El-Aurians considered themselves the peak of corporeal evolution in the galaxy.

Self Satisfied, the Empire slid into a holding pattern, patting itself on the back and working hard jut to assimilate new knowledge and facts brought in by smaller, more mobile friends an individuals in whom the urge to explore was too strong to ignore.

100 BCE - El Aurians begin to seriously question their empire and begin the process of letting it go - colonies are set free and efforts to maintain control are scaled back.

This divestment was not entirely peaceful - there had always been issues of resistance and rebellion to the El-Aurian Empire, although these were usually small.

But several open scandals and publicly humiliating incidents brought the issue to a crossroads and began the end of the Second Empire.

0 AD - The El-Aurians develop the final stage of their life extension technology - a genetic treatment that gave El-Aurians a functionally open ended life span. They were still mortal and could be killed by accident or violence. But old age no longer held any fear for the El-Aurians.

500 AD - The El Aurian population beings to crash. They seem to have an emotional and spiritual reaction to knowing that, barring accident they will live forever and among these is a very solid lack of drive to reproduce.

The Divestment of the Second El-Aurian is under way.

1000 AD - The El-Aurians have pulled far back into their former territory and are beginning to advance a culture of listening, an being open to what the universe had to tell them. Historians call this the third El-Aurian Empire, although it's not an Empire at all. El-Aurians try to undo signs of their earlier hubris and pride, obscuring the historical record

1500 AD - The collapsing El-Arian Empire has run-ins with the Vegan Tyranny. This is a group based on manipulation, secret agents, lies and complex conspiracies.

1600 AD - El-Aurian operatives, now schooled in the arts of conspiracy and secret maneuver hand the Vegan tyranny a massive set back - The two sides agree to a policy of neutrality.

1800 AD - El Aurians, now dwindling in number travel the galaxy once again exploring. Now they explore on a personal scale and see what wisdom they can glean from friends on other worlds and in other places.

El-Aurians begin to exhibit enhanced Psionic abilities, which they describe as "Listening" including empathy, and extra sensory perceptions about the flow of time itself.

1920 - The El-Aurians begin their "Last Preserver" mission

1955 - Omega is smeared by Orion Mercenaries

2267 - The Borg Assimilate an El-Aurian scout in the Delta Quadrant

2291 - A Borg Cube destroys El-Au. The El Aurian Culture falls.

2310 - Boothby appears as the Starfleet Academy Gardener

2350 - El-Aurian individuals travel the galaxy alone or in small groups with friends, listening. Some El-Aurian factions are still operating.

2371 - El-Aurian Tolian Soran Involves the Enterprise-D in his mad plot to foil the Borg.

A conflict between two El-Aurian factions, concerning how much El-Aurians should interfere with the Federation is resolved in favor of Non-Interventionists - the Federation settles the Interventionist faction of the El-Aurians well outside Federation Borders.

Examples -

Guinan - Wise woman of the Enterprise-D (TNG, multiple episodes)

Boothby - Wise man of the Academy (TNG, VOY)

Martus - An Itinerant Con man (DS9, "Rivals")

Aaron Sheffield - a tall, lanky man with red hair and prominent nose, he is especially charming, manipulative and cynical, but has a soft spot for romantic notions.

Elizabeth Sheffield - Occasional Wife of Aaron, she is a beautiful blond woman with the mind of a mad scientist - pursues multidimensional physics and altering the fabric of Space/time as a hobby. She is deeply stubborn and set on getting her way.
