Old TV Shows

Post by bovistock » Thu Dec 12, 2024 11:19 pm

I have a collection of old movies. Some have been colorized.
The collection is mostly sci-fi. I add one "new" movie a week.

Yeah - for historical and educational purposes, of course. I got some cartoons that are worse.

Fuckin ICK!

I applaud your adherence to historical accuracy. I'll be avoiding those.

I do agree that even a bad example is an example.

Over the last 9 years or so, My willingness to tolerate toxic horseshit has gone way down

DW Griffith advanced the art of film making - but did so in the service of racist toxic horseshit.

That movie was partly responsible for the resurgence of the Klan in the 1910s and the 1920s.

My Dad vamped around it. I think His grandfather was in the clan in those days.

And, as it turns out, racism wasn't nearly as historical and museum quality as I would have thought in the 1990s.

So I will leave Birth of a Nation to film historians with strong stomachs.

Outside of the cinematic history it is is a pile of horseshit, horse shit left out in the hot sun. I have no intention of ever watching the thing.

One: it's a pile of equine fecal matter as mentioned.
Two: I am not a student of the cinematic art form. Only so many spoons. Given point one I'll leave it on the shelf.

There are too many worthy films I don't have time for to mess with that thing.

I totally agree. Birth of a Nation is a problematic film, but it does have historical standing. I decided to include it in the lineup because it tells a story - not necessarily accurate. It is mostly BS, but I see it as a necessary evil to remember and understand the past and the mindset of a group of individuals with an agenda. Kind of like, "Gone with the Wind", and "To Kill a Mockingbird."

I wouldn't even pout them in the same sentence. The only worth "Birth of an Nation offers is the cinematic history. Outside of that it's a vile thing.

I've said every a bad example is an example, it is still bad.

Posted the 1936 version "Things to Come" at mlen.tv
Seemed socially and intellectually prophetic. There will always be a group of people who'll sleep in the bed they just set fire to.
