Yes. I figured that we're still in the in between phase of Disodium working it way down to Starliners.

Also, the Kongo has been in operation as a museum ship since a long time before Disodium

DiSodium was almost 40 years ago. There are still a lot of DiLithum ships doing short haul or not time sensitive hauls. However in the Federation you can get a sizable ship for a song. If a liner was not covertable it got put aside for not being economical.

The main thing slowing down everyone having it is finding DiSodium. The builder methods for making DiPotassium work for DiSodium too.

No Sir! The thread where it was invented was ... maybe eight or ten years ago. It's not that old yet.

Dilithium only ships are being retired to rear echelon duties until the hulls are used up.

Although you'd think slow liners would fade away like ocean liners in the 1950s - the fact that there are always more places to go mean that old, slow boats can find routes that need a ship, even if slow.

The main trunk routes would get new Disodium liners first and then more and more as they're built out.

But on the frontier - you can FIND things to do with a Starliner. Especially if they're selling cheap. Science missions will be sitting pretty.

Disodium was about 2380. It's 2410. We have been doing this twenty years.

I don't think it was that early. I think it was 10 to 15 years ago

The warp scale page was created in 2009. A shift from a like page on my website. As I remember it it has been 30 years since the DiSodium breakthrough. Verification will take a search through the Yahoo archive.

One of the first things Hailey did was to canvas for the transfers that got the scientist there to start with. The breakthrough was shortly after that.

Desire

The plain black suit, black shirt, timeless. Jerry adjusted his jacket. The anti sensor weave was getting more The anti sensor weave was getting more flexible, which was nice. He glanced at the hall mirror, his hair was doing its own thing as per normal.

**You could use a holding product.**

Jerry looked at Alielan next to him. **I hate the smell, no matter how much they say it doesn’t stink. And I have to wash my hair more often.**

He reached the hotel suite indicated and knocked. The door opened at once. A Green Gunboat, expected.

“Don’t try to touch him Torc. Men have died that way.” The speaker was the perfect in every way Golden Orion man in clothing that cost more than Jerry’s latest car.”

Torc, cocked an eyebrow in the direction of his boss, while showing the two of them in.

“I value your service Torc, Mr LaSaille is mostly a gentleman.”

“An interesting greeting Mr Auric. My mate Aleilan.”

“I am pleased you both came. I was not sure you would.”

Jerry took in the room, the best the La Toit Rouge offered. “Well you did come all the way from Bo’chock. I can give you a hearing. 'Mostly a Gentleman'?”

“Mr LaSaille, your reaction to being manhandled is well known, and in this case, respected. Please, have a seat.” Auric draped himself on a couch.

Jerry sat on the other one, Aleilan laying beside him. “So why come all this way to see me?”

“You have things I would like Mr LaSaille.”

“Such as….” Jerry’s eyes narrowed.

“Your youth drugs.”

Jerry burst out laughing. “You fell for that? I’m sorry Mr Auric, try the Cerebusians, or if you dare the Encarta. I have no miracle up my sleeve.”

“But your age. You commanded the Republic at…”

“Yes, I did, was that your other question? The Captain I did speak with named himself as Auric.”

“My Great grandfather. I hold no grudges. Piracy is a risky business. But you remain. Admiral Hailey said I should not bother you.”

“You have not, yet. I fail to die. I have no reason, in spite of looking. I just don’t age.”

“You are a Human Oldtimer.”

“You can name me such.”

“You do not claim it?”

“I’ve met three. I could be.”

Auric’s eyebrows went up. “Three?”

Jerry shrugged. “One I sought with some foreknowledge, the other two I...ran into if you will. All three asked my forbearance in their location or condition.”

Auric looked at the floor. “You are a man of your word. I have bothered you for nothing it seems.”

Jerry shrugged. “It beats staring out the patio for another day.”

“The sun warnings….”

“Take them very seriously. A burned Orion is not pretty. I shed and peel constantly. Long sleeves cut down on the trail of skin flakes.”

“So no tourist industry.”

“No not really. Trade, Starfleet, and Memory One, that is about it. You can have a look at the House Auric facilities.”

“I plan to.”

“So it’s not a wasted trip.”

“I fear you think less of me.”

“No, I deal with this often enough. People looking at their own mortality can believe what they hope is true.”

“So you live on and no down sides.”

“Don’t believe that, Watching friends and lovers die is no picnic. Humans are not built for an open lifespan. There are people that want your secret, and will not accept the truth. I’ve killed a few. I get away with being known because I have this as a fall back. The Ane will cover me.”

Auric rose and Jerry with him. “I must accept what is. I wish you well Mr LaSaille.”

“And you also Mr Auric.”

Jerry and Aleilan left the Suite. Aleian looked back. **Where are we headed?**

**Spaceport, I want a shuttle home.**

**And then?**

**Earth, Bellacalone. Lets be out of reach for a while.** Jerry took a firm grip of her neck.

There was a crack and the hallway emptied of them.

Torc watched the hallway for a moment after the two vanished. He silently closed the door.

Desire – Garry Stahl July, 2025

I wrote a thing, I’ll take it. Cerebusians are mentioned in “Too Short a Season” TNG and the Encarta are part of the Starbase 600 Game. Mr Auric is an Orion House Lord in game as well.

Slight edit. It feels better.
