This forum is badly out of date. The upgrade process is non-trival. I am trying to get up the courage to do it.jayphailey wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 8:23 amI don't see anything wrong inherently with the webp format.
But a lot of programs (Like this forum) can't see them yet

Both GIMP and gwenview have no issues, My issue is "why?" Do we need yet another image format?jayphailey wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 8:30 amhttps://99designs.com/blog/tips/webp-image-format/

I prefer PNG for my own use and will stay with it. Like them on the web. I never store things on the web.jayphailey wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 8:30 amhttps://99designs.com/blog/tips/webp-image-format/

Re: A Question about the ADF
You didn't read the articles I linked. WEBPs are about 25% more compressed than comparable PNGs.
So a website only has to load 75% as much data, improving performance.

I did actually. When did milliseconds matter?jayphailey wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 9:15 am

Multiply it by the number of images.
Also yell at fucking google for making it, not me

Re: A Question about the ADF
Agreed, but not in the case of WEBP. I can't find any evidence it's anything other than a more modern compression algorithm
Google is harming their search to make people look longer and get subjected to more ads, because they're trying to maximize profit.
There's a whole podcast about that

Ed Zitron, a journalist has been tracking the "enshitification" of Google and he's appropriately angry and cynical about it. He's great.
So I am not defending Google. I regret diving into the Google walled garden at this point.
But in the specific case of WEBP format, I can't find anything evil or underhanded about it. Just something newer than JPG and PNG
