That and the George. Had they had better pilots and more of them.

But they didn't. They used them all up.
The George and the Raiden had reliability issues because by then, they were struggling with supply chain issues.
Same with Germany.
I think they made more P-51s then either Japan or Germany made entire air forces - let along hellcats and B-29s
Size matters.

Yamamoto knew this. Tora, Tora, Tora aside. He did say "For six months I will run wild, after that I have no assurance of success." And he nailed it to the week. He had had schooling in the US and had seen the size and population.
I have seen a few videos based on the diary entires of German POWs. On seeing the USA they say "We never had a chance."
