Yo'esly: "True Avians, Avairads, my kind, Phoenixes, Glacians, have open ended lifespans. But every hundred years we undergo a cleansing of body and spirit. You detonate , older the Avian the bigger the detonation marked by your element. In my case a blast of lightening. And are reduced to what we call the egg. A translucent golden orb. Three days later you reverse the process and are renewed for the next hundred years. This also happens if you get stabbified. And you come out hungry. So to protect the egg we have special structures called egg holds. To make sure you have a meal we have friends nearby with that meal."
