Taj Project (Klingon Scout Ship)

Return to Finished Models

Your Comments Welcome.

This is a ship from my Trek PBEM RPG. The Aw is described as the love child of a BOP and a Defiant. She is the replacement class for the BOP in general. Taj is the Klingon word for knife. So this is a knife class scout. bow view
This is another of those "design it as you go" ships. It is the smallest ship I have tried to build (At the same time I am building the largest.) I hope to have this one done quicker. bow view

Update Aug 24

This project is not developing in the direction in which I started it. The "love child" is turning into a true Klingon bastard. The neckless design has grown a neck in stubborn Klingon fashion, and the pure styrene model has pewter and aluminium parts as well. Here it is with the head and neck in place top side view.top
The Bottom view. I am placing nacelles on the ends of the wings. A properly rakish Klingon looking nacelle. Mounted at the back I think. The head is off a wargaming ship, scale unknown and maker unknown. One of those things I say "Gee, I might be able to use that." and buy a few. I cut the bulky rear off this one and just used the head. bottom view
A view of the Stahl shipyards and some of the projects I have running. To the left is a manta cast from the styrene original. The mold was not a great success. This copy was the only one I got, and I have to fix it. Live and learn. Slightly to the right is the Stingray Scout. An Ane design to fill the same role as the Taj. It needs nacelles turrets and quite a bit of work. It stared as a large "Silent Death" fighter. Behind it is something I decided to paint. I don't know what it is yet. It might be a Vargar Frigate. To the right is the Acceptian Striker in the base color coat. I am considering how to finish it. Way to the back among the tools is one of my Manta nacelles. fleet

Update Sept. 6 Construction Final

The nacelles are on, the greebles finished. These are the pre-paint final shots of constuction. Top port view. The stuff on top of the hull is .010 card stock. the wing detail is .005 cardstock. Nacelles are from an old FASA "Saber" class Klingon ship in 1/4800 scale. fleet
Yes the post is a little canted to one side, and the ship is slightly pointed up. I thought that would give it a jaunty air when displayed. Here is the bow on view. I think I got the nacelles fairly straight, even if they did fight every inch of the way. fleet
Underside showing wing detail. The post is my standard 3/32 rod, or in this case tube. As with all my small ships the post is attached permanently to the ship. small ships get a rod that fits inside the ID of the 3/32 tube, and are displayed on such a tube. Big ships are placed on 3/32 rod. fleet
Stern shot showing the Impulse deck. The Mavica camera in macro mode will show detail, and flaws that the naked eye will never see. I have picked the dots from ink jet printing out with it. The finished results won't be this messy, I hope. It's 3:54 AM, time for me to turn in. I'll post this in the morning. fleet

Final October 8

This was really finished about a week ago, but I just got around to taking the pictures. Paint on stands polished and painted. The Aw has jointed the motley fleet on my starship shelf. Behond the Finished Product.Finished
Bow on. For once my sloppy painting style helps. Klingon ships are not suppose to be neat. Primer is Citadel black primer. The bast coat is Vallieo Gun Metal Blue. The top coat is Flat Green and Flat Red on the wings. bow
Stern shot with the finished Impulse deck. fleet
Full side showing the general layout. The finished model scaled out to 109 meters long. fleet
Bottom shot better showing the wing detail. The brass post is permanently glued to the ship. Something I do with all the small models. fleet
Topside with more detail fleet
Final beauty shot. Incidentally this is not the model I built, but a casting of that model. The more fragile prototype has been put away and I painted up a casting. Casting is an adventure in itself which I will save for another day. The End! fleet
