Angle of Attack

The Datawork was never done. Li'ira lounged around in her underwear, shuffling through a double handful of PADDs writing up her reports and signing necessary documents.

Her quarters on the Cincinnatus were almost sinful. Almost a full apartment of her own. Well not really. She shared the quarters with Neela. Neela didn't seem to spend the night in the Green Gang's communal quarters very often.

The rug on the floor was thick and well padded. The furniture was all over stuffed and carefully designed to be ergonomic from almost any angle. The colors were subdued, yet rich, so the decor took a little while longer to become boring.

Li'ira's music collection sounded softly in her ears. The sound system in the room put the one in her office on the ShiKahr to shame, and she'd specifically bought and installed that herself.

It was too quiet, even so.

Li'ira looked at Neela. The girl was nude, sitting at the table, chewing on a stylus and staring intently at a PADD.

Li'ira stayed in her underwear so that in an emergency she could throw on her scant style uniform and run for the bridge.

Her body informed her that her underwear was binding and slightly itchy. Her brain reminded her that if she pranced around naked someone might see her. Li'ira was getting used enough to these different signals to ignore them.

Quietly Li'ira got to her feet, padded over to Neela and looked over her shoulder.

The text on the screen was math heavy and filled with what looked like engineering diagrams.

Neela looked up at Li'ira.

"What are you reading?" Li'ira asked

"Aeronautics." Neela answered.

"Why?"

"Because T'Nara told me to,"

Li'ira looked at Neela carefully. "T'Nara told you too?"

"She's teaching me to fly."

"I wasn't aware that this involved building your own flying machine."

"Apparently so." Neela put the PADD down and looked at Li'ira "It's hard."

"I bet."

"But... I sort of like it." Neela said. "It's like, ummm.... dancing with my mind."

"Have you ever been challenged like this, before? On a mental basis?" Li'ira asked.

Neela shook her head. "No. Like I said it's like learning a very difficult dance, but doing it all up here." She pointed to her temple to emphasize the point.

Li'ira's eyes softened. "And you like that feeling, huh?"

Neela looked a touch confused. "Yes. I guess it's like dancing. If I can learn aeronautics my brain will be more graceful."

Neela looked surprised when Li'ira hugged her, but hugged back.
