The Campaigns of Star Trek- Outardly Mobile
by
Jay P. Hailey

Introduction. This is a list of campaigns, Virtual campaigns and just strange ideas I have exploited for the Background of Jay-Trek. Some of these represent RPG campaigns that I have taken characters and backgrounds from.

I am a total packrat and never throw anything away.

Others represent "Virtual Campaigns" Ideas for what might be fuun for a very odd game.

Some of this stuff has been worked into stories and in-play background material.

Some of it may develop further in play.

[Ezekiel]
Genre - Star Trek
Game Master - Jay
Date - About 1983

Notes - My first Trek Game as GM (Or at all). Noteable mainly as a learning experience, filled with bad ideas, lame gimmicks and general cluelessness. However - It's alo notable as the first hint that I am a total pack rat about my trek games, Characters, and situations.

Setting - Star Trek- TOS
Players and Characters
Dennis Washburn - Horatio St John-Smythe
Geri Elliot - Lee Barr
Tom Hart - Spiak
Damon Sateriale - Carpenter
Jay - Amber St-John Smythe

[Ezekiel II]
Genre - Star Trek
Game Master - Jay
Date - about 1986

Notes - a Short Lived revival of the Constitution class Ezekiel, as a movie era setting. I took the Captain, John Grimes from the A Bertram Chandler Novels. Notable for Jay's bad Aussie accent, and two wonderful characters by April Shelby and Lelani Walton. If I could remember the chracters, I'd have kept them. April Invented the notion of trial by combat and professional Duelists as a legal profession for Andorians before LUG came up with it. We played one session.

Setting - Star Trek Movie Era
Players and Characters
Jay - John Grimes
April Shelby - Defrocked Andorian Duelist, now a Communications specialist
Lelani - A Lemur like humanoid, sensitive and intelligent, yet socially clueless - when this being saw the Captain smoking a pipe, she assumed he was on fire and sprayed him with a fire extinguisher.

[Ezekiel III]
Genre - Star Trek
Game Master - Jay
Date - about 2000

Notes - A "Virtual Campaign" featuring details, back story and set up - but no players. I made up the Late Movie Era Ezekiel, the stories of the characters, and Amber's Role as the Captain of the Ezekiel.

Setting Star Trek in the mid 2290s
Players and Characters
Jay - Amber
Jay - Gren'cha'Ka

[Early Harrier]
Genre - Star Trek
Game Master - Jay
Date about 2001

Notes - A Virtual Campaign - A continuation of the Ezekiel III - establishing the Amber St.John-Smythe as as the Captain of the Harrier and the Harrier as the replacement for the Ezekiel. Used GURPS SPace Stlas 4 for much of the Background.

Setting Star Trek in the 2300s
Players and Characters
Jay - Amber
Jay - Gren'cha'Ka
Jay - Colonel Richards

[B-13]
Genre - Urban Fantasy
Game Master - Dennnis Washburn
Date - 1983
Notes - Notable as the first Appearance of Jennifer who Joins the "DII" and Ashby Campaigns. In Jay-Trek there is an echo of B-13, seen in "The Secret History of Jay-Trek

Players and Characters
Jay - Jennifer Taitler

[Robert April]
Genre - Star Trek
Game Master - Dennis Washburn
Date 1984
Notes - Dennis decided to try his hand at GMing Star Trek. I made up the Miranda Class USS Robert April (named for the first Captain of the Enterprise) commanded by "Starfreedom" a "Sivoan" woman - from the Star Trek novel "Uhura's Song" by Janet Kagan
This Campagn was more learning experiences. I didn't role play the "Star Trek head well" and the game was quickly Abandoned. I referred to it in Deep Space Thirteen by imagining an Akira Class USS Robert April which was T'Nara's previous assignment.

Setting - Star Trek Movie Era
Players and Characters
Jay - Starfreedom-to-April

[Benson]
Genre Star Trek
Game Master Jay
Date 1984 and onward

Notes - I made up a waaayyy too complete back story and history for the world of Benson. This wasn't for any good reason. It started as a background source for Bob Justman. It was also influenced by H Beam Piper, especially the Fuzzy Books and 4 Day Planet. It featured a corporate colony who's residents revolt in a bloody civil war - this cvivil war is resolved by the Starship USS Hood. The now free planet of Benson doesn't have a Benson Defense Force - it mans a Starfleet Reserve Station

Setting: Star Trek Early Movie era.

Players and Characters
Jay - Bob Justman

[Benson II]
Genre - Star Trek
Game Master - Jay
Date - Mid 1990s

Notes - I recycled the Benson setting for a sort of "Deep Space Nine on the Ground" setting - the PCs were officers at the Benson Starfleet Reserve Center, who ventured out in Runabouts to cope with problems Ala Ds9. This lasted only a couple of sessions before we switched over to the Starship Kongo/Zaire

Setting Star Trek TNG/DS9

Players and Characters
Jay - Captain
Sandi - Miriah Katasai
Gene Ambacher - Paul Durango

[Bob Justman]
Genre - Star Trek
Game Master - Jay
Date - 1984

Notes - Ths is a character I never got to play. He was the second of my short lived project of making up Star Trek Characters based on the names of Star Trek behind-the-scenes crew and management. I made up a huge background, making Justman a war hero in the Benson Civil War, as well as subsequent action-packed events.

Setting - Star Trek: The Movie era

Players and Characters
Jay - Bob Justman

[Night Stalkers]
Genre - Urban Fantasy
Game Master - Jay, Dennis, April
Date - 1986

Notes - This was the first generation of Role Playing games with my friends in Southern California, centered around the old Shadowstar club. The initial set up was myself, April Shelby. Lelani Walton, and occasionally Dennis Washburn. Later we were Joined by Hazel Hughes, Ed Pryor and Tracy Birdine

Setting - 1980s, a supernatural world

Players and Characters
(This is a partial list)
Jay - Preston Howell, Player Character
Dennis - Spike Millane
April - Bryant Staad, Rudy Greenvele, Simon Vogel
Lelani - Drake Anderson, Jaqueline Post
Hazel - Artie Blake,
Ed - I don't recall
Tracy - Chrichton Lacrosse

[Night Stalkers II]
Genre - Secret History of Jay-Trek
Game Master - Jay
Date - 2001 onward

Notes - I had some weird attachment to the Characters from the Nightstalkers game. I felt they'd never gotten a fair break. I rewrote them to be an Adventuring Group in the 2040s in Jay-Trek. This was mainly based on my own version of Rudy, and his groove. This was started by recycling Rudy for the Bendross Game

Setting - 2040s, Star Trek - the Secret History of Jay-Trek
Players and Characters
Jay - Rudy Greenvele

[Night Stalkers The Next Generation]
Genre - Urban Fanasty/Science Fiction
Game Master - Jay
Date - 1988

Notes - After a dispute in the Night Stalkers group, April, Lelani and I peeled off to form a sub group. We took children who'd been established in the Night Stalkers Game and imagined them as young 20-something adventurers in the year 2010 in the Nightstalkers world.

I recycled Rose Vogel from this Game to a character in Depp Space Thirteen. I recycled the Staad triplets into antagonists in a Bendross story. The Staad trips flowed from the Anight Stalkers II rewrite, but Rose and her Brother were much more gymanstic to justify.

Setting - Urban Fantasy/Sci-Fi, the world of NightStalkers in 2010

Players and Characters
Rose Vogel - Jay
Arthur Vogel - April
Elizabeth Marie Staad - Lelani
Jeffery Henry Staad - Lelani or April
Alexander Michael Staad - Lelani or April

[DII]
Genre - Urban Fantasy
Game Master - Jay, the GMing duties rotated
Date - 1987 to 1989

Notes - After another dispute, or a continution of the same one, (We were all much younger and more energetic then) - we dropped the Night Stalkers and invented Discrete Investigation Internationale, a detective franchise which was the home for PCs who'd investigate mindane and supernatural cases.

This format had legs and we rn with it for quitre a while. It was a lot of fun.

Setting - Urban Fantasy Earth, in the 1980s

Players and Characters
There were too many characters to list here, except to point out my own character Scott Ashby who married Jennifer Taitler of the 1983 B13 game and continued forward

Players
Jay
Hazel Hughes
Ed Pryor
Tracy Birdine
Ken Strickland
James C Jones II
Brenda Gilmore
Philip Trank
Dennins Washburn
Allan
And occasionally
April Shelby
Lelani Walton

[Ashbys]
Genre - Multi-Game, Multi Era dynasty
Game Master - Jay, Various

Date - Starts in 1987, contiues to the present

Notes - When day dreaming about being a writer, I imagined created a Dynsaty of related chracters who I could use in different genres and create a body of work for people to argue about the inter-relations of - not unlike Sherlock Holmes or Nero Wolfe.

I kind of tripped into it being the Ashby family. Actually before I'd invented any of the Ashby's it started with Jennifer, an Early B-13 characterof mine, who moved into my headand set up house keeping, never to leave.

When Jenniefer grabbed "Scott Steven Ashby" and and announced tht he was hers I was on the road, although I didn't know it.

Setting - Various, but has a solid representation in Jay-Trek

Players and Characters
Many in games since 1988 to the present Day.

[Abyss RPG]
Genre - Science Fiction
Game Master - Dennis Washburn
Date 1989

Notes - Dennis appeared for the "DII" group and announced he had a new science fiction game. Hazel, Ed and I made up characters and away we played.

Turns out Dennis had just seen "The Abyss" and thought it was a very cool idea for a game
We played the scenario to the end and Dennis said "Welp, that was fun!" and abandoned the set up. I recycled my character, Dr Patricia Flynn of the US Coast Guard for the USS Harrier Game not too long later, and rewrote her backstory to include her original game in the Jay-Trek back story

Setting - Near Future Science Fiction
Players and Characters
Dennis, Jay, Hazel, Ed.

[Kongo/Zaire]
Genre - Star Trek
Game Master - Jay
Date - 1990 onward

Notes - I set this one up as a play by Snail mail game for my friends Mike and Debbie Hill, however this never got off the ground. When I returned to Spokane in 1991, We tried it as a Face-to-Face game with Debbie, Mike, Joe and Kerry Nechanisky. Sadly this game was not very successful. Thename of this one has been retconned to avoid conflicting with Garry Stahl's USSKongo stories.

Setting - Star Trek the Next Generation, the Excelsior class starship USS Zaire.

[Kongo/Zaire II]
Genre - Star Trek
Game Master - Jay
Date - 1993

Notes - When the Attempted Benson Game didn't work, We transferred the character to the USS Zaire, left over from the 1991 game. After an encounter with the Crystal Trees (GURPS Aliens) - the zaire's warp drive was wrecked, and the ship was retired to be a system defense boat in the "Beehive System" [GURPS Space Atlas 4] keeping the Crystal Trees from attacking anyone else.

Setting - Star Trek the Next Generation, the Excelsior class starship USS Zaire.

[Piper]

Genre - Star Trek
Game Master - Jay
Date - 1991

Notes - When I moved back to Spokane in 1991, I attempted to GM a game for the folks I lived with at the time - Sandra Moran, Beau Moran, Phil Ballew. This is the game that I got Suval from. Beau and Phils Character are still in my notes somewhere. I started to GM GURPS Unnight for this group but they lost interest and the game died after a few sessions.

Setting Star Trek The Next generation - a Scout class ship named the USS H Beam Piper.
Players and Characters
Sandra Moran - Suval of Vulcan
Beau Moran - an Andorian Security Officer
Phil Ballew - an Orion Exchange Officer.

[Bonaventure]

Genre - Star Trek
Game Master - Jay
Date 1984 through 2004

Notes - This takes it's name from a Animated series reference. In "The Time Trap" the Enterprise discovers a pocket dimension filled with lost ships. Among the castaways is an early Federation starship the Bonaventure. Scotty revrently says "The first of us all."

I had always thought that the early days of the Federation, just bvefore and just after the founding would be an interesting time for role playing and story telling. I even made up a character and outlined some stories. The ships were slow. A voyage of disocovery would be a years long committment. Doesn't that sound like fun?

Then with one thing an another Star Trek: Enterprise went into that era. They did some things right. Earth men in primitive starships stumbling into a complex, dynamic universe and having to get incvolved in other people's stories. Playing peace maker among the people we will know in time as solid members of the federation. All very cool.

Some things they did stupid. They named the ship wrong, for one thing. (Although "Enterprise" is a nigh perfect name for a Starship, we all know the Constitution class Enterprise was the first one.

Having Earth's space force named "Starfleet". Fucking Duh. Like Ancient, advanced and roud races would sublimate themselves to a johnny come lately uptart race?

Starfleet is what they all make together. You can see seeds, the basis of it in Earths Space service but it's not all the way there, yet.

I borrowed from babylon 5 - the name of the unified Earth Government, it's headquarters and it's military arm. I also borrowed Delenn's statement that humans build communities - that this is the Human talent. Humans are the glue that holds this federation thing together.

I also eliminated the temporal cold war and other idiocy from ENT and imagined the series done right as Star Trek Bonaventure.

This is a virtual Campaign. It forms the basis for a lot of Jay-Trek back story.

Setting - Star Trek from 2100 to 2175 or so

Players and Characters
None specifically, except Jay tweaking ENT to be right.

[Savannah]

1992

Genre - Star Trek
Game Master - Jay
Date - 1992

Notes - I encountered a lady named Dawn, basically having a long distance friendship. She wanted to role play. I said "great. Let' do Star Trek" - Dawn had a different Idea of what would make a good trek game than I did. I made up a lot of characters. As the thing developed I used Paul Jaquay's "Central Casting" books. when used properly these books can add depth and interest to a charactr's background story. When abused, they can result in characters worthy of a Soap Opera. This is exactly what Dawn was looking. So I stuck my tongue firmly in cheek and went for it. I kept the characters though. Toned down and played more "real" they cn be acceptable characters. I like some of them quite a bit.

This game ran for a while, but never reached a successful conclusion.

Setting - Star Trek the Next Generation - the Excelsior class Starship USS Savannah
Players and Characters
Dawn - Brandy McKoye
Dawn - Alexndria Kincade
Jay - everyone else.

[Harrier]
Genre - Star Trek
Game Master - Dennis Washburn
Date - Started in 1992

Notes - This game formed the core of my Trek fanfic and my RPG world. This was a successful Star Trek game and it was very cool.

Setting - Star Trek - the Next Generation - the Constellation Class starship USS Harrier
Players and Characters
Jay - Jay, Li'ira, many others, recycled from other games, like Patrica Flynn from Dennis Abyss Game, Stephanie Anderson recycled from DII and Tillean recycled from DII and Ken's Vicharrian sequence, as well as original characters, Spaat, Varupuchu, Ruzre Vnglka nd others.
Dennis - Flagg, McTague, Others.

[Discovery]
Genre - Star Trek the Next Gneration
Game Master - Dennis Washburn
Date - 1992 through 1994

Notes - this was a sequel and a continuation of the Harrier Game. Again, forms a core of my Fics and my Star Trek world. We hit reset and created many new characters and backstories and played it through.

Setting - The Galaxy Class USS Discovery
Players and Characters
Jay and Dennis going nuts.

[Askene]
Genre - Epic Fantasy
Game Master - Gene Ambacher.
Date - mid 1990s

Notes - Has anyone who has read Lord of the Rings and played Dungeons and Dragons NOT tried to create their own world of Epic Fantasy? Gene read, Played and Did. We played this game using the Dragonquest system. The game was not entirely sucessful - Gene got lost part of the way through, although in the early going he create some memorable, successful scenarios.

Setting - I don't recall the original name of the world. Askene is a cporruption of a note to "Ask Gene"

Players and Characters
Sandi played - Ivy League a stoner elf
Lafe Played - Cor a stoner werebear.
Broc played - Orin, a tightly wound near-paladin.
Dennis played - Oh, I forget the name, a harried and nearly hysterical fire mage who turned flubs and miscast spells into the angry and dangerously unpredictable Fire-God ATMA!!

Several other folk were there too,.

[North Slope Lodge]

Genre - Urban Fantasy
Game Master - Jay and Gene Ambacher
Date - 1993 and 1994

Notes - This was an odd set up, but it worked for a while. The setting was very similar to the Nightstalkers/DII game, a orld of urban fantasy where master vllians, dark magic and ma science made life aventurous for those fighting the Good fight. In this case the PCs were a group of random, odd individuals who wound up working at a ski-lodge near Calgary, Canada. Challenges rangd from guests on the run from Drug dealers, to Sasquatch, to terrorists to avalanches.

In time we tried to spin this game off in a more conventional detective agency set in Calgary , dealing more deliberately with these advaetures, but that didn't work out.

Along with Nightstalkers/DII this game cross Pollinated into Vista City.

Setting - North Slope Lodge - outide of Calgary, Canada.

Players and Characters
Jay - played Oslo, an immortal Viking, turned Ski pro.
Jay - Played Hank Billips, an alcoholic former action hero, on the run from failure.
Gene - Played Josh, a handsome and venal man who used psionic empathy to loot rich older women.
Sandi - Played Sonja Traveller, a gypsy trying to redefine herself
Broc - Played Joel Parkinson
Lafe, Carol and Kitty Howard also played in this game, although I don't recall their characters.
Jeramie Postelwaite played Kelley Staton, an uptight, multi competent Mountie based on the character from the TV show "Due South"

[Bendross]

Genre - Science Fiction
Game Master - Gene Ambacher
Date - Mid 1990s

Notes - Gene Ambacher created this game, set in his own Science Fiction Universe. It ran for a while and then flailked and died. Not Gene's Fault, this happened often

Setting - Earth, and planet Bendross in the distant Future
Players and Characters

Jay - Hamilton Ashby, Rudy Greenvele

Broc - Martin Kerenski, Tristan Mancuso

Sandi - Michelle Gibbons, Linda Vasquez, Dr Jon Dou

[Bendross II]

Genre - Star Trek
Game Master - Jay, borrowing from Gene Ambacher
Date - Mid 1990s

Notes - When Gene was GMing this game - I realized that it amounted to a game of "Cyberpunks meet Colony Alpha" - It also occured to me that it was perfectly placed to talk about the Transition between the world we're familiar with - and the Utopic Fantasy world of Star Trek. so after the game folded and was abandoned, I appropriated it for the "Bendross" pre-Trek stories.

Setting - Earth of 2072, and the PLanet Bendross
Players and Characters

The same as the original Game

[Endeavor]
Genre - Star Trek
Game Master - Jay, occasionally Gene
Date - 1994 or so

Notes - Encouraged by the success of the Discovery Game, and partial success of the Benson Game we transferred th characters to the USS Zaire (Excelsior class) then the Nebula Class USS Endeavor. This game ran sporadically until 2003, and became one leg of the ST-OM cycle

Setting - Star Trek the Next Generation and DS9 era

Players and Characters
Jeramie Postelwaite Played Kevin Mitchell
Sandi Hedlund Played Miriah Katasai
Gene Ambacher Played Paul Durango and Joe-The-Scan
Kitty howard Played Starcloud to Enninen and Thessale Yaran
Katherine Hedlund (Martin) played Brekka Di
Dennis Washburn Played Enrique Watabe
Jay PLayed Dr Matae

[Fulcrum]

Genre - Star Trek
Game Master - Jay
Date 1996

Notes - This was a sub campaign of the Endeavor Game - it was never intended to be played by itself, but it could be if you wanted to. The premise was tht anything could be reimagined as part of Star Trek. The Fulcrum is essentially Babylon 5. However, I raided GURPS Aliens very thoroughly for it. The premise was that the Fasanni proposed and supported the Fulcrum station as a peace making excercise between tense human factions and the Kaa, who want to dominate and eat everyone. This idea spawned some decent world building.

Setting - Star Trek TNG - not too far outside of known space
Players and Characters
The Endeavor Campaign went through the Fulcrum

[Deep Space Ten]

Genre Star Trek
Game Master - Kitty Howard, Sometimes Gene Ambacher, Sometimes Jay

Date Mid 1990s

Notes - Kitty wanted to GM her own Trek game. She cheerfully looted Deep Space Nine and invented Deep Space Ten. Kitty added her own good guy race the Bendarri and the antagonist As'Taan.

Setting - Star Trek TNG/DS9 - on the Federation Space Station Deep Space Ten

Players and Characters
Jay PLayed Li'ira and occasionally Ensign Hendricks (Duuuuude!)
Sandi PLayed Tandala McBier
Kitty Play Jonathan Baker, Fayanna May and Fen Moirna
Katherine Played Taucia Smith
Josh Donovan Played Garan Draxil

[ShiKhar]

Genre Star Trek
Game Master - Mostly Gene, Some Jay, once Jeramie
Date - mid 1990s

Notes - When Kitty Left in a huff, we grabbed the characters that belonged to us and placed them abard the Federation Starship USS ShiKhar, a Miss Spelling of the name of Spock's home city on Vulcan.

Setting Star Trek TNG/DS9 The Excelsior class USS ShiKhar

Players and Characters
The same as above without Kitty Howard
Jeramie Postelwaite played Brett Tyson.

[Cincinnatus]
Genre - Star Trek
Game Master Dennis and Jeramie

Date - Mid 1990s

Notes - When Dennnis and Jeramie had a great idea we moved the Cast from the ShiKhar to the USS LIberator - a Defiant class starship. But soon it became apparent that a Defiant class wouldn't work. So we retconned the ship into the Intrepid class USS Cincinnatus. This Game didn't last long.

Setting - Star Trek TNG/DS9 Intrepid Class
Players and Characters
Much the same as the DS10 and ShiKhar game.

[Vista City]
Genre - Urban Fantasy
Game Master - Jay, Gene, Jeramie, Broc, Sandi

Date - Starts in 1994

Notes - This game recycled characters from DII (The Ashbys) and North Slope Lodge (Sonja) - it became the longest running andmost successful RPG campaign I have ever devised.

Setting - A magical modern world - the fictional town of Vista City, CA.

Players and Characters
Dennis - played Sam Thomas, once
Sandi played Sonja Traveler, Monique LeBeau, Cory DaCosta
Gene PLayed Terry Bumpers Parkinson
Broc played Angelo Mancuso, Julie Richards
Many others - I have dragged this one out for just about everyone.

[Vista City II]
Genre Star Trek - late 1990s and early 2000s
Game Master - Jay
Date - Virtual

Notes - This is me reimagining Vista City as part of "the Secret History of Jay Trek"

Setting - Earth of the 1990s/2000s a place of weirdness and adventure.

Players and Characters
Many of the sme characters from the original game - rewritten to be consistent with Jay's image of star Trek.

[Askene II]
Genre - Epic Fantasy RPG

Game Master - Sandra Hanson, Jay, Broc

Date - 1999

Notes - An AD&D/D&D 3.0 game created by Sandra Hanson, and altered good deal by Jay and Broc. I recycled Sunshine for this one.

Setting - a Magic soaked fantasy world

Players and Characters
Jay - Sunshine
Sandra and Broc - I don't recall (I didn't recycle their characters)

[Askene II-A]
Genre - The Ancient History of the Secret History of Jay-Trek

Game Master - Jay borrowing from Sandra Hanson, Broc

Date - 2001; Virtual

Notes - The Secret History of Jay-Trek re-write of this D&D campaign. It was never played, just imagined.

Setting - A world with multiple sentient humanoid races - ruled with subtle force by the Elauhir.

Players and Characters
Jay - Sunshine

[Vista Point]
Genre - Old West Fantasy

Game Master - Jay, Gene

Date - 1999

Notes - The same setting as Vista City, but 120 years earlier. Magic and weirdness meets cowboy action. This game wasn't as successful as the Vista City Game, but might lurch back to life at some point.

Setting - Vista Point CA, 1875

Players and Characters
Jay - Garrett Wilson, Matthew Ashby
Sandi - Pat (Patricia) , Willy
Broc - Joel Parkinson
Gene - Sherriff John Stirling
Carol - Jean Le Duc

[Vista Point II]
Genre - The secret History of Jay Trek
Game Master - Jay
Date 1999-Virtual

Notes - As with the SHJT version of Vista City And Askene - this is essentially Jay, mentally rewriting the game to cconform with Jay-trek

Setting - Vista Point and environs - 1875 onward

Players and Characters
Versions of the same as above.

[Deep Space Thirteen]
Genre - Star Trek
Game Master - Engage was a writing club that folded in 2003

Date - 2001

Notes - This is the setting for two ST-OM stories - 52 "Good Bye Ruby Tuesday" and 53 "Black and White Issues" - I was hoping for a sort of writing club meets role playing experience. That didn't happen. When the club folded, I folded the Characters back into ST-OM. I took Rose Vogel from Night Stalkers the Next Generation, and Parker Ashby is a new addition to The Ashbies.

Setting - Star Trek Post TNG/DS9/VOY on Federation Space Station Deep Space Thirteen

Players and Characters
Jay T'Nara of Vulcan, Rose Vogel, Parker Ashby
Shannon Neslon
Dr Kempton
Kylah Dannon

[EUG]
Genre - Star Trek, he Secret History of Jay-Trek
Game Master - Jay, riffing off of several people, Virtual Campaign
Date - 1944 - 1996

Notes - The Jay-Trek version of the Eugenics wars, happens differently from that of the recent pocket books novels (although those were fun) and is an actual war. This virtual campaign dominates the 90's and 2000's in The secret history of Jay-Trek - it was a violent, world spanning war that cost millions of lives. I borrow heavily from a few toss off lines from TOS and the otherwise Horrible 1985 James Bond Movie - A View to a Kill, which sgued nicely right into my picture of the origin of the Eugenics supermen and the set up of the Eugenics War.

I have never had a chance to run this - it would be very obscure, and difficult to explain what I was doing to the Players. However with the right group I think it could be fun.

Setting - Star Trek Earth in the 1990s, the Bad Old Days

Players and Characters
I often take characters from Modern day games and stories I like and wonder what they are doing in relation to this Alternate Universe.

[Omega]
Genre Star Trek - another Virtual Campaign
Game Master - Jay - Riffing off Gene Roddenberry

Date 2006

Notes - In this Virtual Campaign I mix the notion of "Preservers" who run around transplanting humans all over the galaxy - the TOS episode "The Omega Glory" and the two failed Gene Roddenberry Pilots "Genesis II" and "Planet Earth" to make a more playable and slightly more sensible episode out of "the Omega Glory"

Setting - Planet Omega 2267 onward

Players and Characters
None - a Virtual Campaign

[Ken]
Ken Strickland is a friend of mine from Los Angeles. I was introduced to his work in the 1980s and have been fascinated ever since. I have been reinventing his material for 20 years now, hoping to invite him to come out and play. We have one story co Authored. Even if we never do another, his additions to Jay-Trek are very large and shiny.

[Abor]
Genre - Space Fantasy
Game Master - Kennith - this isn't a game so much as a fic setting, for his novel "Bloodties renewed" and subsequent works
Date 1990
Notes - Ken created this story of Space princes and the issues between fathers, sons and acceptance.

Setting - the Planet Abor in the 1990s

Players and Characters
Mikal Jon Ston-Ptron - Ken's main protagonist
Ralton Stone - Mikal's son, and Ken's other protagonist

[Abor II]
Genre - Star Trek
Game Master Jay, riffing on Ken's work
Date - 1996
Notes - This is Jay's rewrite of Abor as a Trek world and Federation Member. I struggled to keep Ken's feel of a caste ridden, status and race conscious world whjich evolved into a Federation member and may, someday get comfortable with itself.

Setting Star Trek TNG

Players and Characters
This is a Virtual Campaign

[Four Corners]
Genre - Urban Fantasy (More suburban, really)
Game Master - Ken, Again A fictional world
Date late 1980s and continuing.
Notes - Ken created this story of Four Armed Mutant Humans as a sory about race, acceptance, and popular culture.

Setting - the fictional town of Four Corners Georgia, with it's mutant humans

Players and Characters
Go ahead and Read the Stories

[Four Corners II]
Genre - Star Trek
Game Master Jay, Riffing on Ken's work
Date - 1995
Notes - As a nod to Ken, I included a planet "Four Corners" in Jay-Trek, the home of a race of 4 armed humans. I refined it later to be the home of refugees from 1940s Georgia dn4 armed humanoids who build a modern world together

Setting - Star Trek TNG
Players and Characters
A Virtual Campaign, no one seems interested in PLaying a four armed person

[Vicharrians]
Genre - Science Fantasy
Game Master - Ken, as a story tell, some contribution by April V Shelby
Date - 1980s

Notes - Ken invented this story about a castaway alien prince, and his human family on Earth.

Setting Earth of the 1980s and the Vicharrian Star Empire.

Players and Characters
I don't have copies of Ken's stories from this time, nor a cheat sheet of characters.

[Vicharrians II]
Genre - Star Trek
Game Master - Jay, Riffing on Ken Again
Date - 1992

Notes - Tillean Darvon Ahk was part of the Original Vicharrian campaign, plamber of DII in the late 1980s. An Alien visiting Earth and learning of Earthly ways. In 1992 I recycled her as the Science officer of the USS Harrier and it seems she was much happier in this role. Tillean brought the rest of the Vicharrian setting with her, and it has become a very cool part of Jay-Trek

Setting - Star Trek TNG

Players and Characters
Jay plays - Tillean, Kamaline and their unseen triplet sister Demeline
Ken Plays - The Mark Family, Including Barannon Mariukichan, the planet Beauville and subsequent folks.

[The Secret History of Jay Trek]
Genre - Star Trek Meets Weird Urban Fantasy
Game Master - Jay. This is a Virtual campaign. Once again, I'd GM it, but it would be obscure and odd.

Date - Since the Mid 1990s

Notes - This is me using pieces of Star Trek lore to substitute for Urban Fantasy Lore - thereby allowing me to steal urban fantasy pieces for the back ground of Jay-Trek. This is also inspired by the Wold-Newton timeline - except with the Trek philosophy underlying. This whole setting is called "The Secret History of Jay Trek"

Setting - Earth (Mostly) from 1850 to 2050
Players and Characters
Various. Usually borrowed from Vista City and TV Shows.

[Super Soldiers]
Genre - SHJT, borrowed from Eugenics War - James Bond, A View to a Kill, and the X-Files
Game Master - Jay and lots of other folks
Date - 1967 forward

Notes - TOS posited the Eugenics war, where "improved Humans" attack and try to dominate the rest of the world, unsuccessfully. Although "A View to a Kill" was a crappy movie it lent me a perfectly gameable premise for these advanced humans. During WWII Dr Hans Glaub created a therapy based on hormones and steroids which created children of spectacular strength, endurance and intelligence. They were also largely psychotic and violent. X-Files made up a stoudly over powered variant, but then came up with some interesting politics as various wings of the Consiracy tried to use Super Soldiers as pawns in their great game - while the Super soldiers had ideas of their own.

In Jay-Trek, these steroid and hormone fueled enormously strong whack jobs formed independant antagonists through the 1970s and 1980s, and and Organized force of Antagonists in the 1990s.

Borrowing from David Palmers book "Emergence" I posit four groups AA - Improved humans who were raised as improved humans Example Khan Noonien Singh. AB - Improved humans who were raised as normal people - example Buffy Summers. BA - Normal humans whjo were raised an Improved Humans and BB - normal humans raised as normal humans - eg the control group.

Setting - Earth in Jay Trek from 1944 to 1996 and subsequent time zones

Players and Characters
A Virtual Campaign.

[Body Snatchers]
Genre Horror/SHJT
Game Master - Jay
Date - mid 1990s

Notes - This draws from "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", the old TV show "The Invaders" and even the recent Movie The Arrival (1996). These shows posited Alien invaders who took the form of humans for nefarious ends. In Jay-Trek, these were Vegan Infiltrators, a life form created by the Vegan Tyranny in order to infiltrate possible threat species and undo them.

Setting - Jay-Trek, Earth from 1945 onward. Also these creatures were used on Vulcan and to undo an incipient Orion Empire in about 1000 AD

Players and Characters
Virtual Campaign
"Spender" on the X-Files is a Vegan Infiltrator and a very successful one.

[Telepaths]
Genre - Urban Fantasy/SHJT
Game Master - Jay
Date - Mid 1990s onward.

Notes - Another end of The Secret History of Jay-Trek. In this section, Magic is replaced by Psionics. Psionics exist in Star Trek, Magic doesn't. I also borrow heavily from Babylon Five's "PSi-Corps" which posits a telepathic nation within the nation of Earth, where telepaths are subjects of Psi-Corps, ruled bvy Psi-Corps rules and interact with non-Psionics according to stiff and specific rules. This hides an evil conspiracy, where the upper excehelons of Psi-Corps consider themselves naturally superior to normal humans (Mundanes) This even leads to a war where Telepaths of the Psi-Corp go to war to take over the earth.

In Jay-Trek, when you see a magic wielder in an Urban Fantasy setting, EG Willow Rosenberg from Buffy, or Sonja Traveller in Vista City - they are Telepaths and Empaths in the Secret History of Jay Trek.

In Jay-Trek there are occasional Cabals of Telepaths (The order of the golden Ring), but none has reached the level of comparative power of the Psi-Corps from Babylon 5. Many Teeps are anti-social, ruthless, cynical and Isolated.

Setting - Star Trek during the

[Vegan Infiltrators]
Genre SHJT/Horror See Body Snatchers
Game Master - Jay
Date 2000

Notes - Borrowing mainly from the TV show The Invaders, and some from "The Arrival", and allowing for an X-Files like alien encounter. The Vegan infiltrators arrive. When possible they take over existing identities, (Killing their victims). When necessary, they develop new identities and work up into factions on a target world. They use the weakness of their target populations against them, working to bring havok, chaos and destruction to their victims. Their favored weapons are lies, manipulation, fraud and assassination.

The goal of this is to prevent rival Civilizations from arising in the zone controlled byt the Vegan Tyranny. Why not just use astroid strikes or bio weapons to ensure the extinction of potential rivals? Good question. No one knows for sure.

The Vegan Infiltrators disappear in 1986. Their infiltrators carry on, depending on their character, either continuing their mission, going native or becoming hermits.

The Vegan Infiltrators are sterile and cannot breed.

They need special equipment to change shapes, however, periodically a VI goes mad. His or her madness is reflected physically as well.

When a VI dies his body is consumed by an enzyme native to his body, leaving only crunchy black ash.

Setting - Earth from 1945 to 2010. Vegan Infiltrators have also been active on Vulcan.

Players and Characters
A Virtual Campaign, an Antagonist faction for Protagonists in The Secret History of Jay Trek

[Galactic Technology]
Genre The Secret History of Jay-Trek
Game Master - Jay
Date - 2000 or so

Notes - Mainly used by Miguelito Lovelace, and super top secret spy agencies. Lovelace somewhere aquired a chache of Galactic technology in the 1870s and proceeded to use it in violent attempts to take over the country or the world. Some of the technology fell into the hands of government agencies, but it always remained mysterious and nearly impossible to duplicate until Earth's own understanding of physics and technology matured.

This is mainly to allow mad science into "The Secret History of Jay-Trek"

Setting - Earth 1870 to 2063, The Secret History of Jay-Trek

Players and Characters
Virtual Campaign - a source of antagonists and problems for Protagnists in SHJT

Notes - Many monsters were encountered by the Enterprise Crew - Who says they were nice enough to wait until man went to Them?

Here, creatures, pets, aliens and monsters from Space arrive on Earth and proceed to cause trouble.

The PCs of this Virtual campaign would be responsible for coralling them, defending the population from them and either securing them or returning them space where they belonged.

[Bureau-13]

Genre The Secret History of Jay-Trek

Game Master - Jay

Date 1983 onwards

Notes - When The Union discovered a Confederate Spy using telepathy on selected officials, the Bureau was born. Lead by early Agents Gordon and West, the Bureau became the US Government's wing for dealing with unusual and otherworldy threats.

Agents become aware that Earth lives in a crowded, vibrant and perhaps not too good neighborhood of the galaxy. Using the latest in technology (and whatever can be scavenged from Galactic technology) Agents of the Bureau and it's foreign counter parts fight madmen, monsters aliens and general insanity trying to keep the world safe and snug.

Setting - the Secret History of Jay-Trek - 1864 through 2079.
Players and Characters
A Virtual Campign. Borrows from B13 games, Night Stalkers, DII, Vista City and so on.

[Old Timers]
Genre The Secret History of Jay-Trek
Game Master - Jay
Date - 1983 to present

Notes - This is a case of a particular "entity". Unlike most others, this particular type is not Sentient. It is the non-corporeal, energy based equivalent to a cat. It feeds on the emotional nergy of a specific person. This entity will bond with an unsuspecting human and live as a neural parasite. Until its host dies. Then the Symbiote with "fix" him,, returning the host to life and creating a further bond. Afterwards the host wiull not age. The host will be cured of most serious injuries.

When its host is beheaded or chopped into tiny biosy or blown to smithereens, the unfortunate entity must quickly find a new host. It has minutes to live without one.

If the only option is an already inhabited host body, then the two entities will engage in thier own life-and-death struggle. This usually makes for a huge light show, and makes the surviving host as high as a kite, feeling invulnverable and empowered.

This is actually one entity eating the other.

The reproduction cycle of this entity, as well as its life cycle is not known. Victims of inhabitation by these entity are notoriously reluctant to allow examination.

Many of the Immortals have suffered persecution and outright torture at ther hands of people convinced that they were supernatural evil. Not a few have been burned at the stake and successfully killed. In the 1970s Ben Richards was pursued across the planet by an obsessive billionaire, intent of vivisecting Richards to learn his secret.

Due to this hostile reaction it's not long before most "Old Timers" learn to conceal their identities and natures. Old timers are almost natural undercover agents. Almost uniformly, Old Timers resent being pressed into service by spy agencies and security services. They frequently disappear when contacted. This tradition continues until the current day (2376).

Before the truth of the condition of Immortality was known, A complicated mythology was built up around the condition. A mix of rules of engagement, and a great game, and a guide to ettiquite among the Immortals. Older Immortals handed down this lore to newer ones. Swords and Sword combat remain favored weapons among immortals who conflict.

In Play This condition of immortality directly replaces Vampirism, from Urban Fantasy Magic.

Setting - Earth throughout history. Presumeably other planets have such people as well - In the Secret History of Jay Trek

Players and Characters
Examples - Connor and Duncan McLeod. Methos. Amanda. Richie Ryan. Nick Wolfe. Christopher "Kit" Walker. Barnabus Collins. Darla Aurelius. Liam "Angel" Collins. Druscilla Landau. [The Night Stalker]
Genre - Secret History of Jay-Trek
Game Master - Jay
Date - 1980s onward

Notes - In the late 1960s Reporter Karl Kolchak had several run ins with Old timers. Following this he made the uncovering and reporting of the "Supernatural" his calling. Kolchak plagued B13 agenst for then entire decade of the 1970s until, after an encounter with galactic Technoogy run amok in 1978, he was inducted into the Bureau. Kolchak's writings are still considered excellent source material for that end of Intelligence work.

Setting The Secret History of Jay-Trek

Players and Characters
a Bit of background, or an encounter for a game set in the 1970s.

[Wild, Wild West]
Genre The Secrets The Secret History of Jay-Trek
Game Master - Jay
Date - 2000 onward

Notes - a good framing mechanism for the relationship of the weird and galactice to Terran Agents of the Bureau. Agents Jim West and Artimous Gordon travelk around the west of the 1870s Foiling Master criminals, telepaths, Drop ins and Miguelito Lovelace, a mad scientist with access to Galactic Technology.

Setting - Earth of the 1870s
Players and Characters
Presumeeably some of the Characters from Vista Point or The Triumph of Hope could easily be ported into this sort of setting.

[View to a Kill]
Genre The Secret History of Jay Trek
Game Master - Jay
Date - 1985 revised as time rolls on

Notes - In 1985, one of the first of Hans Glaub's "Improved Humans". Max Zorin decided to try to corner the world electronics market by destroying Silicon Valley. Zorin and Glaub were killed fighting Agents of B13 and it's British Counterpart MI-13

Although this incident was later popularized with "James Bond" hoistorical records show that the "Legend" of James Bond had been abandoned by MI-6 and was obscure at that time.

Setting - The Secret History of Jay Trek
Players and Characters
Any B13 agents operating in 1985

[X-Files]
Genre - Secret History of Jay-Trek.

Setting Earth 1997 to 2003
Players and Characters
Virtual Campaign

[Pulp Heroes]
Genre - Secret History of Jay-Trek
Game Master - Jay and many others.
Date - 1980s onwards
Notes - Brave and daring men and women. They mix quick wits, quick fists and quicks guns against the forces of evil. Heroes of a bygone age, they stand as Icons of the Positive side of Human nature.

Inspired in part by the Wold Newton timelines of PJ Farmer, I imagine several favorite Puple heroes as they might have adventured in the world of Jay-Trek. John Reid and Tonto becoe freelance "Bounty Hunters" chasing criminals across the west. Sherlock Holmes Matches wits with Murderers Victorian England and Beyond. Although often lacking the costumes and over-the-top showbiz attributes of their original pulp inspirations - these people pepper the Historical record with unlikely stories of heroism and steadfast defense of the good.

A virtual Campaign, although a Secret History of Jay-Trek Pulp Adventure Campaign is as likely as any of the others.

Setting - Earth from the 1500s onwards
Players and Characters
Allan Quatermain; Sherlock Holmes; John Reid and Tonto; Lamont Cranston; Britt Reid; Kit Walker; Indianna Jones; Matt Dillon; Buckarro Bonzai

[Starbase - 600]

Genre - Star Trek
Game Master - Garry Stahl
Date - 1998 onwards

Notes - Garry started GMing for the Discovery at about the point that Dennis abandoned the Game - Although this is an AU of the main ST-OM universe the two cross pollinate heavily. In the STB-600 game the Discovery stops at OZ and the crew throws trhemselves into building a modern world there.

Setting - Garry-Trek - the "Far Reaches Sector" a serious frontier of the Federation
Players and Characters

Jay and Garry - as well as occasional guests

[Optimist Station]
Genre Star Trek
Game Master - Jay
Date - 2005
Notes - Along the furthest edge of the Frontier, behind a dark, impassable nebula. Starfleet is just barely reaching. There is discovered an ancient space station built into an asteroid adrift between stars. Although lightly inhabited and used - this station isn't claimed - until now. Optimist station makes a perfect starbase for Federation expansion into the area. The PCs job. Help built the base and then make friends with the locals. Seek out strange new worlds and new civilizations. All the good Starfleet stuff.

Setting Star Trek, probably just post TNG/DS9/VOY

[FASA]

One off the first Star Trek Role Playing Games. Chock Full of background information. I pillaged it ruthlessly for Jay-Trek, but many of the references have been altered.

[LUG]

The best of the Trek Role Playing games , in my opinion. I have never used the Actual ICON system, but the background material was rich, In depth and wonderful. Own many of the LUG trek Books and you'll pry them from my cold dead hands.

Among the Materials I use for my time line

Among the Clans - the Andorian Source Book

The Way of D'era - the Romulan Source Book

The Way of Kohlinar - the Vulcan Source Book

Planets of the Federation.

[Decipher]

I have never used the Decipher Trek books. I have been Broke during the times they came out. Much of the creative staff is the same, however. I would turn down any random Decipher Trek Book.

[Star Fleet Battles]
This is my First experience with Gaming Star Trek. It still flavors my impression of how Starships work in combat.

[GURPS]

The Generic Universal Role Playing System. The first one I ever got, I got in order to fix what is wrong with the FASA system. It worked then and still works like a charm.

[GURPS Space Atlas]

The first GURPS Space Atlas. I used it once in Jay-Trek when PCs from the Benson Game went to Cretacous, the Dinosaur planet.

[GURPS Space Atlas 2]

The Corporate Sector. I borrowed the Corporate Sector pretty much whole sale as one of three Human factions in he Fulcrem Region.

[GURPS Space Atlas 3]

The Great Spiral Sector - this book forms a solid part of the backfground for Jay Trek

[GURPS Space Atlas 4]

The Phoenix Sector was the site of much of the Early play in the Zaire/Endeavor Game.

[GURPS Space Unnight]

I used this as the basis for the Piper Game in 1991. The players didn't pursue it long, but it was fun while it lasted.

[GURPS Aliens]

I used GURPS Aliens whole sale to populate the Fulcrum Region.

[Hero System]

My favorite role playing System. Although I use GURPS bakground materials a lot, the Hero System does precisely what I want a System to do.

The Arrival - 1996

In this Movie, Charlie Sheen plays Zane Zimiski, an Astronomer who discovers Aliens very close to the Vegan Infiltrators.

The Invaders

In this 1967 series, David Thinnes plays David Vincent, An Architect who discovers Aliens infiltrating the world. The premise of the Vegan Infiltrators

X-Files

David Duchovney and Gillian Anderson play Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, a Pair of FBI Agents who encounter the very odd and supernatural.

Kolchak: The Night Stalker

Darin McGavin plays Carl Kolchak, a reporter who encounters the very odd and Supernatural

Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Sarah Michelle Gellar and company play Buffy and her crew as they fight biterly weith the very odd and the Supernatural.

View To a Kill 1985

James Bond fights Max Zorin, a madman who wants to kill people and break their stuff.

Highlander

Duncan McCleod is an Immortal. He sword fights with other immortals. Trust me, it's better than that.

Forever Knight

Nick Knight is a Vampire with a Conscience.

The Immortal

Christopher George plays Ben Richards. a Man who finds out that he is Immortal - and that people with a lot of money want to steal this from him.

The Wild, Wild West

Robert Conrad and Ross Martin fight the very odd and occasionally Supernatural in the Old west

Dark Shadows

Barnabus Collins and all the insanity that could be leveraged into a single soap opera.

The Phantom

Kit Walker has a thing for Pirates. And so did his dad. And his dad....

[Forbidden Planet] 1956

Arguably the very first Star Trek Pilot. Captain JJ Adams andhis brave crew land on a strange new world.

[TOS]

1967 to 1969 the TV show that stared all the madness. We'll put on pajamas and travel through space seeking out new life and new civilizations. 40 years later it still sounds like a lot of fun!

[TAS]

The Cheesy Filmation Animated series. Still, it was Star Trek!

[Movies]

The Movie Series.

[TNG]

Perhaps the Iconic Star Trek series. Proved that the notion had legs.

[DS9]

I think this is the best written of the series so far. In Jay Trek this one gets rewritten heavily, since Dennis and I layed down the frame work years before DS9 was written

[VOY]

Nice ship. Give me that cast and crew and I'll turn out a hell of a Star Trek series for you. Had it's really good points.

[ENT]

The most seriously rewritten of the Trek series when translated into Jay-Trek, I still like the characters.

Disclaimer - why do I even bother? I am stealing from everthing that moves and a few things that don't any more. There is no Plagurism at the gaming table. I have no intention of using these materials for anything other than my own personal amusement and that of my players,

Disclaimer: Paramount owns all things Trek. I claim original characters and situations in this material for me.
